Supporting Others

Thanks for all the donations of cans for the Auckland City Mission. The Kauri Whanau brought a huge number of cans of food that we gave to Alexis, who talked to us about the work that the City Mission does.

Number of the Day

Today in Maths we looked at the Number of the Day activity. It is on the page of the same name on this blog. Students had a go picking a number and completing the activities to find all the answers.
You could have a try at home too. If you find it is easy, start with a bigger number.

Walk to School Week

Today was 'Be Bright, Be Seen' day. Many students in our class walked to school today. Some dressed up in bright colours, too. Nathan, Sasha, Jordyn, Amelena, Chloe and Aditha all wore something bright to help them be seen while they walked.

Numbers Game

Here is a game that the students in Room 17 have played. There is a trick to it.
You could print this paper and challenge your child to circle the numbers in order from 1. See who can get to the highest number in 2 minutes.

Blackout Poetry

We wrote some poems in our class.
We each had the same page of text, a newspaper article about plastic pollution. We circled the words from the text that we wanted to be in our poem, then blacked out all the other words. We were left with fabulous poems. Come to our class and read the poems in our library corner.

Plastic floating around
The world
Crashing in like waves

Too much plastic
Mountains
To drive the bin

Sharing less plastic bags
In lives

More plastic is made
Now call on plastic
New Zealand

By Miranda

Plastic is like
horrifying  mountains  toppling

The humans have made plastic to choke on
People like a tidal wave

There have been mutterings about too much plastic
It’s mainly to ban single-use plastic bags has occupied the media.

By Olivia

Stuff floating around
mountains toppling into the sea
Managing lives
Elements and variations in the east

More into the sea
Fish drinking
Tiny society adjustment
